Is it possible to patch a hole in carpet

I like this one. Most of those materials are pretty straightforward. For the carpet remnant, the best option is leftover carpet from your install. Many installers leave you with some for these purposes. You can try to find your exact match carpet at the store where you got it. You can cut out a piece from a less important area like a closet.

No one will ever notice. Press the empty can onto the carpet, centering on the middle of the hole. This will leave an indented circle on top of your carpet that completely contains the damaged section. With your utility knife or your carpet hole repair cutter if you bought one on Amazon , cut out the damaged piece of carpet, following the outline that you made in step one.

Cut firmly through the base of the carpet but be careful not to cut into the carpet padding underneath. After you have finished cutting out your circle, use your hands or a vacuum to remove any stray carpet fibers.

Now that you have your piece cut out, you will need the replacement carpet. Most of the time there will be extra carpet left over after you have finished installing it, and you can use a piece of that for the repair. Avoid making too many turns or you may slice through the padding that supports the patch. Remove the damaged piece, then use the same method to cut out the replacement patch.

Draw an arrow on the back of the patch pointing in the direction you rubbed the fibers to make them stand up. Remove the protective backing from the adhesive disk, and dampen the disk with cool water to temporarily neutralize the glue.

The disk is slightly larger than the patch, so open the slit in the disk and slide its edge under the carpet between the backing and the padding, as shown. When the adhesive becomes tacky, in about 3 to 5 minutes, press down on the carpet around the disk's edge.

Pluck out any loose carpet fibers around the edge of the hole and the surrounding carpet. Place a narrow bead of carpet-seam glue along the perimeter of the cutout.

Align the arrow on the patch with the direction of the fibers in the rest of the carpet, and stick the patch down firmly onto the disk. You have 15 minutes to make adjustments before the glue sets. Straddle the edge of the patch with a star roller, and press down firmly as you steer it twice around the perimeter of the patch. You could use leftover carpet or take a piece from a well-hidden area such as a space behind a cabinet.

Mark out the new shape and cut out. This will blur the lines of your handiwork and allow you to enjoy a carpet that looks as good as new! If the water is coming from flooding or sewage, the carpet is typically not safe to keep , nor should you tackle this problem without a professional. You can use fans or a wet-vac to dry carpet. When it comes to caring for your carpet, you can trust the experts at Carpet Call to help.

Draw an arrow pointing in the same direction on the carpet pad. When working with an area rug, draw the arrow on the replacement piece of carpet only. Remove the replacement piece of carpet and set it aside.

Cut the carpet tape in four separate lengths that fit along the length of the sides of the square or rectangle you cut into the carpet. Leave the backing in place that covers the sticky side. Position the tape so half of the strip's width is under the carpet, and the other half is outside the carpet.

Ensure the sticky side is facing up and the backing is left in place. Hold each piece of tape in place and draw a line onto the carpet pad or plywood along the length of the tape's edge. Remove all four pieces of tape from the hole in the carpet. Peel off the backing that covers the sticky side of the tape one piece at a time. Replace the sticky tape into the hole so its edge lines up with the mark you made on the carpet pad or wood.
