Short answer- it rocks! The building is visually arresting, and commands center stage in downtown Minnie. The red seats and theatre are a splendid foil for the all blue exterior and comfy to boot. We loved going out to the terrace after the show to see an amazing view of the Stone Arch and the blue lights under the highway in memory of the tragic episode some years back.

On performance days, you pre-pay at the entrance of the ramp and then get your ticket for easy exit. The theater is architecturally magnificent.

THE Guthrie is a treasure, but the escalator to the performance area is a 4 story tunnel in the darkness. Once you get up, the performances are outstanding as are the views, the food is some better than Ok BUT the Frank Lloyd style projection out over the river is absolutely amazing.

The only thing worse than the production was the seating. They advertise "more leg room" but the old Guthrie had far more comfortable seating. I must have seen over 50 plays at the original theatre and never left before the end. Airplane cabin seating is deluxe compared to these cramped, uncomfortable seats. I am a 5' 5" woman and my knees were touching the seat in front of me.
I hate to think how a tall man manages to even sit. I have been invited to accept free tickets to the Guthrie since then, but declined when I found out the Wurtele seats were involved because I did not think I could enjoy a play while being so uncomfortable.
