You can park at either end of the highway and walk in. Not difficult but about 2. Don't leave valuables in the vehicle. I do not think you are supposed to. Also, you need to check the terms of your contract very carefully because even if you are renting a jeep , there may be restrictions on taking it off road. Thank you all for the replies. You're awesome! I will still plan it in the trip and hike in.
Looks like a beautiful spot. Also, thanks for the tip on the valuables. Park at the restroom parking lot and empty out your car beforehand. The best would be if someone in your party isnt interested in the hike and could pick you up on the other side. The hike in is more scenic from the west side past Makaha.
There is ample parking at the beginning of the trail next to a stunning beach. It is a fairly easy walk and only one part, where the road is washed out, will be a challenge. You can either go up or down to cross this spot. We chose to go down, I think next time I would try up. Kaena Point is perhaps one of the, of not the best place on Oahu for whale watching too. This created beautiful white sea foam on the black rocks. There were too many beautiful lookouts on the trail! We spotted blowholes and natural arches formed in the lava rock.
At some point we heard a loud sneeze… which were from two monk seals who were playing in one of the tide pools. Eventually we came across a gate. It keeps natural predators away from the wildlife that live on the sand dunes. Nikki thought the gate was there to keep us humans out, so she was ready to turn around. Do not do that! My friend Dewayne was hanging on roll bar with all his weight out right side..
I saw a old car wrecked down there! We made it…I wonder how many others have driven across Kaena Point? Wow, that sounds really wild! Hi, is it easy to get an Uber ride out of Kaena point?
You could try checking out the bus system? Hope this helps! Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. The views at the start of Kaena Point Hike. Sand dunes at Kaena Point.
