With each of these projects, the Foundation partnered with local peoples to develop alternative, sustainable models of economic and community development. We realized that the history and teachings of First Nations offer Canadians a unique opportunity to learn how to be stewards of the lands and waters.
We still have much to learn. Over time, our work continued to expand — including increased focus on the urgent need to address human-caused climate change. My parents Tara Cullis and David Suzuki have shown me all my life that there is so much one or two! To complement our activism and on-the-ground public engagement work, the Foundation has worked with the David Suzuki Institute and Greystone Books to publish more than 60 books, many of which have won national and international awards. Portions of the declaration were woven into the Earth Charter, which continues to gain adherents today.
Through all facets of traditional and emerging social media, we raise awareness of the most pressing environmental issues, and provide people with the tools they need to act. From to , David Suzuki was married to Setsuko Joane Sunahara, whom he began dating in high school. The couple had two daughters, Tamiko and Laura, and a son, Troy. Since , he has been married to writer Tara Cullis, with whom he has two daughters, Severn and Sarika. Cullis is also president and co-founder of the David Suzuki foundation.
Suzuki is the author or co-author of more than 50 books. Suzuki has received many honours and awards. These include five Gemini Awards for his work in Canadian television, as well as the John Drainie award for broadcasting excellence.
He has 29 honorary degrees from universities in Canada, the United States and Australia. In , he received the Order of British Columbia.

A large target audience for Suzuki, children play a big role in his work. By inspiring children to take action, Suzuki ensures that more people will care about the environment in the future. If people learn about the dangers nature faces from a young age, they will be able to show care and take action when they are older, much like Suzuki himself.
Therefore, by providing opportunities for ordinary people and by educating children, Suzuki calls on others to help him achieve his goal of a sustainable environment.
David Suzuki is a prime example of what a hero should be. As a science academic, Suzuki works to find ways not only to protect the environment but also for us to live sustainably within the environment. He shows that he cares not only about nature and ecology but also for the future of humanity. Suzuki shows that he wishes for others to share his passion by educating them on the dangers of climate change and by providing solutions to sustainable ecology.
By elevating us with his life story of perseverance through obstacles, hard work towards goals, and educating others, he calls us to action, and he calls for us to become heroes ourselves. Without everyday heroes like Suzuki, it would be difficult for people to discover the inspiration and motivation it takes to become a hero.
